TOOL FLOW MANAGEMENT

This examines the purchasing process with a focus on tooling and inventory challenges. This is of particular importance to customers within the HMLV segment due to frequent tool change overs and the disproportionately high number of different tools required to keep up. Several key steps are reviewed and analyzed:

  • Choice of Tool
  • Ordering Process
  • Reception and Storage
  • Preparation and Presetting
  • Machining
  • Tool Maintenance
  • Tool Storage
  • Recycling

Each of these milestones poses a series of who, what, when, where, why and how questions that need to be asked and answered. We look at two different flows – how tools are chosen, ordered and received; and how they are handled in the workshop, from the first time they are taken out of stock to when they are ultimately used up and recycled. Tool Flow Management covers all tooling issues to identify cost, location and eliminate tool shortages that could otherwise lead to delays in production.
